Since 1966, bacteriologists have been designing the cutting particle size of May impact samplers based on the deposition location of particles in the respiratory system. These components are gently collected into the liquid and separated into individual units that can survive. The risk of sample overload in this method is minimal, and sub samples can be cultured using multiple methods.
The initial design involved complex glass blowing processes that were difficult to clean and reuse. At a flow rate of 20 l/min, the cutting particle size is very close to the international standard particle grading (>10 µ m, 10-4 µ m,<4 µ m).
Provide two options for the intake port cover. Open type can serve as a sealing ring for grid plates and culture dishes, allowing the sampling area to be exposed to the air to a maximum extent. The conical lid allows the culture plate to be prepared in the laboratory and installed on the sampler before on-site sampling. The rubber sealing plug can be removed from the center hole and replaced after sampling.
The Burkard model strictly follows May's medium size (20 l/min) standard and is precisely manufactured using anodized aluminum alloy (or stainless steel). By applying vertical pressure to ensure airtightness, the sampler can be disassembled and cleaned after release. Then installation and reassembly can be carried out before hot disinfection and operation. The flow is controlled by a critical orifice installed in the third stage. To ensure this precise flow rate, the vacuum pump must be able to maintain a mercury pressure difference of at least 180 millimeters (7 inches). There is a 'stagnation point protective cover' to improve the suction efficiency in moving air. To maintain the designed collection depth in the processing chamber, it is recommended to add 6 milliliters per stage (not the initial 4 milliliters).
